ESIL Inaugural Conference: Types of Events
The Conference Committee has sought to distinguish this Inaugural Conference from other conferences by varying the types of events that will be held, by seeking to encourage a wide diversity of participants, by making many of the opportunities to present papers available to younger scholars, by encouraging interactive formats, and by making provision for scholarships to facilitate the participation of certain categories of international lawyers.
The types of events include:
Keynote speeches
Leaders in the field will address a range of topics related to the theme of the Conference.
Fora
There will be nine Fora or panels, each featuring four invited speakers and a Chair.
Agorae
There will be ten Agorae to facilitate the presentation of ongoing research and stimulate an exchange of views. Each Agora will focus on a key sector or sub-discipline of international law and will involve 6-8 participants. Rather than addressing a specific topic, participants will be free to present a paper on a topic of their choice within the theme of the Agora. Participants will be particularly encouraged to present work in progress whether it be a book, an article, Ph.D. thesis or any similar research project. The event will provide a unique opportunity to share new ideas with groups of colleagues specialised or particularly interested in the themes. Participation is through a competitive process involving the submission of an abstract.
